The Artist's Room Gallery in Dunedin, New Zealand is thrilled to have SIMON JEWELL join our wounderful 'international stable' of artist's..
SIMON was born in Oxford in 1972. After graduating from Falmouth School of Art and Design and Lincoln College of Art and Design, he moved back to Oxford and worked at his father's architectual practice as a draftsman and later as an architectural technician.
In 2008 he moved (with his wife Rebecca) to Cornwall where they both continue to pursue their art careers fulltime.
"For me the process of painting is all about building up layers of paint to form a texture. The Cornish landscape and the sea's surrounding it can be so rugged and expressive - it lends itself to an impasto technique. I mostly paint in oils using palette knife, fingers & found objects building up layers of texture with paint. My work aims to portray that mood and intensity that the sea and landscape have to offer".
